Why NO TOURiST INFO?
Berlin Off the Beaten Path
Alright, friends,
in this article, we explain why we deliberately chose the name NO TOURiST INFO and what truly lies behind it.
It’s about our experience in Berlin’s hospitality industry, our perspective on the city, and why we prefer sharing Berlin insider tips instead of recommending the same tourist spots again and again.
The Name
Of course, we know that the name NO TOURiST INFO might seem a little misleading at first.
Some people might think that we don’t support tourists or that they aren’t welcome here. But the opposite is true.
For more than twelve years, we have worked in Berlin’s upscale hospitality industry, always doing our best to make our guests happy and to show them the city from our own perspective.
The Choice
We chose the name NO TOURiST INFO very deliberately — and yes, a little provocatively. It represents exactly what our urban project stands for: an honest and unfiltered perspective on the city we grew up in.
With many years of experience in Berlin’s upscale hospitality industry and a deep connection to this city, we don’t aim to be another traditional tourist information office at Alexanderplatz recommending the same crowded spots again and again.
Instead, we share Berlin insider tips that come from the heart and help you experience the city in a more authentic and genuine way.
The Difference
Traditional tourist information centers are usually built around a classic sightseeing program. We all know it from traveling: you receive flyers for famous attractions, entrance tickets, city maps, or information about sightseeing tours.
For many travelers, that is exactly what they are looking for — and there is nothing wrong with that. But often this view of a city remains superficial and only shows the polished façade you already know from postcards. If you’d like to understand our perspective on the city, you can learn more in our article about the Berlin feeling.
What is often missing is the real soul of a city: its quirks, its character, and the everyday life that exists beyond the well-known places.
And it is exactly this look behind the scenes that makes a city truly special.
Our Approach
NO TOURiST INFO follows exactly this idea. It’s not about creating another classic travel guide or just another generic city guide.
Our goal is for visitors, expats, and even Berlin locals to experience the authentic side of city life and gain a real impression of everyday Berlin — away from the typical tourist crowds.
Because in the end, it’s the small moments that truly define a city: a café in a neighborhood street, hidden courtyards, lively market halls, or spontaneous conversations with locals.
You can read more about this perspective in our article “Moments Instead of Berlin Magnets.”
Independence
Unlike many traditional travel guides, we focus on honest recommendations, personal experiences, and real stories from different generations who have shaped this city.
It’s not about commissions from recommended places or about presenting a perfectly polished image of Berlin.
Instead, personality, community, and urban culture are at the center of what we do. Our goal is to represent the city honestly and to reflect its authentic culture.
Berlin’s graffiti and street art culture is also an important part of this urban landscape, telling stories about the city’s history and identity. You can learn more about it in our blog about Graffiti and Street Art in Berlin.
A Change of Perspective
Even we Berliners sometimes need a fresh perspective on our own city.
Guests of NO TOURiST INFO experience Berlin in a different way because they consciously choose to look beyond the obvious. They are curious, eager to discover new places, and want to feel for themselves where the real life of the city is happening.
If you’re wondering why we never talk about customers but always about guests, you can read more about it in our article “Why We Don’t Have Customers.”
NO TOURiST INFO stands for individual experiences that allow you to immerse yourself in the real life of this city.
Berlin is not a tourist attraction. Berlin is a city.
See you in the real Berlin – or here in the next blog.
Take care 🖤
