Why We Don’t Have Customers

Alright, friends,

why do we at NO TOURiST INFO talk about guests instead of customers?

In this article, you’ll discover why this small difference means so much to us. It’s about our experience in the hospitality industry, the Berlin way of interacting with people, and why we believe the city should be experienced authentically — not as a customer, but as a guest.

If you’d like to understand how we see this city, and why our perspective on Berlin might be a little different, you might enjoy this article.

The Influence of Hospitality

For more than 12 years, hospitality and tourism have played a major role in my life. What started as a profession gradually turned into a true passion. In both industries, we don’t talk about customers — we talk about guests.

For many people, that might sound like a small linguistic difference. For us, however, it means much more. This choice shapes how we interact with people who want to discover Berlin and who understand the mission behind NO TOURiST INFO.

Because those who want to experience Berlin authentically are usually looking for more than just information — they are looking for a real connection to the city.

Authenticity and Personality

Representing my hometown has always been a privilege — something I’ve taken seriously since the beginning of my training in the hospitality industry.

Berlin, the Berlin attitude, and even the local dialect have been part of me since childhood. And that actually caused some difficulties when I first started working in luxury hotels.

Growing up in a Plattenbau, I had never really been part of that world. And honestly, I never believed in pretending to be someone else. My direct and honest way of speaking is part of who I am — and part of Berlin as well.

Over time, I developed my own way of interacting with guests. A way that is authentic, personal, and still professional — and it worked.

Because authenticity and personality are not only core values of NO TOURiST INFO, they are also an essential part of Berlin’s culture.

The Difference

Great service doesn’t depend on speaking in a particularly formal or polished way. What matters much more is understanding the interests of your guests quickly and advising them honestly and competently. Above all, it requires a real understanding of the city — and of the people who come to explore it.

Standardized and anonymous service is becoming less and less relevant today. What truly matters is breaking the barrier between guest and host and creating a personal experience.

For us, that has always meant representing our hometown with respect. We’re proud to have grown up in Berlin — and this is exactly the city we want to show our guests.

With our language, our attitude, and our own perspective on Berlin.

A Different Approach

This is exactly why at NO TOURiST INFO we don’t talk about customers.

The word “customer” often sounds neutral and transactional. Customers buy a product or a service, complete a transaction, and move on. Just think about your last online purchase — how much personality or warmth did you experience?

A relationship with guests works differently. It goes further — and deeper. It’s built on trust, warmth, and a genuine connection.
A guest is welcomed and treated with respect. After all, they are interested in our hometown, our perspective on Berlin, and they trust us to introduce them to the city.

And that trust is something we take very seriously.

Our Home

Our interest in our guests — and in our hometown — is genuine. And that’s exactly what many people who come to us appreciate.

Unlike a traditional customer relationship, where someone simply purchases a service, the guest is at the center of everything we do at NO TOURiST INFO. We want you to feel well looked after, to turn your time in Berlin into a personal experience, and to build an emotional connection with the city.

Because in the end, it’s not just about information about Berlin — it’s about truly understanding the city and experiencing Berlin authentically.
In many traditional service relationships, efficiency comes first. For us, authenticity, honest interest, and a personal perspective on the city matter much more.

That’s why we design our products to offer more than just information. They are meant to create experiences, leave lasting memories, and maybe even spark a few good conversations.

The Responsibility

We don’t just want to give tips and information. Our goal is for you to discover your own version of Berlin.

You should be able to experience the city in your own way — without us telling you exactly what to do. That’s why our city guide is designed to show the real and honest sides of Berlin, recommending places that tell our stories.

What matters to us is that you can feel what makes this city so unique. And that can be something different for everyone.
For us, guests are never just customers. This idea shapes our entire approach. We want to create an experience that goes beyond simple information — and allows you to experience Berlin and its moments authentically.

Representing our hometown honestly and respectfully is a responsibility we take very seriously.
In the end, we want you to leave not only feeling welcome, but also with the sense that you’ve experienced a real piece of this city.
